What Is a Trading Rebate and Is It Worth It?

Summary

A trading rebate returns part of the fees you already pay on each trade. Here is who pays it, how forex and crypto rebates differ, and when it is worth having.

Every trade costs something, even before you know if it wins or loses. A trading rebate gives a small part of that cost back to you.

This guide explains where the money comes from, how forex and crypto rebates differ, and when a rebate is worth having.

What is a trading rebate?

A trading rebate is a partial refund of the trading costs you already pay. Those costs are the spread, a commission, or an exchange fee.

The spread is "the difference between a trading instrument's bid and ask prices", in the words of the Exness Help Center (checked 3 Nov 2026). You pay it each time you open a trade.

Some accounts also charge a commission per lot. Crypto exchanges charge a maker or taker fee on each order. Our guide to maker and taker fees explains the difference.

A rebate does not remove these costs. It returns part of them later.

Who pays the rebate?

The broker or exchange pays the rebate, under its own partner programme. RebateFX never holds or sends your money.

Here is the chain. Brokers reward the partners who refer new traders. A partner can share part of that reward with the traders it referred. That shared part is your rebate.

We explain each step on How RebateFX works. Our About page explains how we earn: the broker pays us a partner commission, and we keep the part that is not paid to you.

Does a rebate change my spread or fees?

No, a rebate does not raise your spread or add a fee. Your trading costs stay the same as the broker's normal terms for your account type.

The rebate comes from the broker's partner budget. It is not an extra charge on your trades.

You still pay the full spread and commission when you trade. The rebate arrives afterwards, on the broker's schedule.

How is a forex rebate different from a crypto rebate?

The main difference is what the rebate is based on. Forex rebates follow the broker's partner rules, while crypto rebates follow each exchange's referral fees.

At Exness, rebates run through the rebate system in the Exness partner programme. Our guide How Exness rebates work covers the details.

Crypto exchanges base partner rewards on the fees their referred users pay. Two examples from the exchanges' own help pages, checked 3 Nov 2026:

ExchangeWhat the partner reward is based onNote from the help page
OKX"net fees * commission rate"The user must sign up with the referral code or link
MEXCThe friend's net trading fees: "Fees - Bonuses - Discounts"Paid the next day, in the coin used to pay the fee

How the rebate reaches you differs by exchange. Each broker page explains it, for example the OKX page and the MEXC page.

How much can a rebate save me?

A rebate saves you a share of your costs, never more than the costs themselves. The exact rate depends on the broker and account type.

We do not quote rates in articles, because they change. The Exness page and the rebate calculator show a rate only after it has been checked. Until then, they say the rates are being verified.

Here is a hypothetical example. The numbers are made up, and they are not a RebateFX or broker rate:

  • One trade of 1 lot costs you 10 USD in spread.
  • Say the rebate on that trade is 2 USD.
  • Your real cost for that trade is 8 USD.
  • Over 10 such trades, you pay 100 USD and get 20 USD back, so your net cost is 80 USD.

Now say one of those trades loses 50 USD. You still lose 50 USD, plus the 8 USD net cost, so 58 USD in total.

A rebate lowers the cost of trading. It does not change whether a trade wins or loses.

Is a trading rebate worth it?

A rebate is worth having if you would trade the same way without it. It is not worth it if it pushes you to trade more.

The US regulator CFTC warns that a dealer "makes money when you trade more frequently, lose money, or pay fees, spreads, or commissions". A rebate does not change that maths. Paying more fees to get a bigger rebate still costs you more.

A rebate is a good fit when:

  • you already trade with a broker we support, or plan to;
  • the rebate does not change your account type, spread or commission;
  • the terms are written down: what the rate is based on, when it is paid, and what is excluded.

Before you sign up anywhere, read our six checks to avoid rebate scams.

When might I not get a rebate?

You may not get a rebate when the broker's own rules exclude the account or the trades. Our How it works page lists the common cases.

For example, copy trading accounts are excluded under broker partner terms. Very small amounts may be rounded or not paid. Trades that break the broker's rules may not count.

At OKX, you only count as referred if you sign up with the partner's referral link or code. If you already have an account, read the guide for your broker before you do anything.

What else do people ask about rebates?

Do I pay RebateFX anything? No. You never pay a fee to RebateFX. The broker pays the partner commission.

Can I lose money because of a rebate? The rebate itself cannot cost you money. Trading can, and you can lose much more than any rebate returns. Read our risk disclosure.

Who decides the rebate rate? The rate comes from the broker's partner programme and our share of it. Each broker page shows the rate once it has been checked. Until then, it says the rates are being verified.

Will the broker treat my account differently? Your account type and trading conditions are set by the broker, not by us.

What is the short version?

A trading rebate gives back part of the spread, commission or fee you already pay. The broker pays it under its partner programme, and RebateFX never holds your money.

It helps most when you would trade the same way anyway. Once rates are checked, your broker's page and the rebate calculator show what you could get back.
